Time estimation with TimeCalc

An outliner like Checkvist is great for creating a hierarchy of tasks, breaking a large problem into smaller doable steps. But when it comes to the ‘proper’ project planning, one might need time estimation abilities, which Checkvist didn’t have.

Before Warren Harrison closed this gap in functionality with his TimeCalc Chrome extension.

After you’ve estimated the time for separate tasks (which you set with tags like 5h or 8d, or in any other format you prefer), TimeCalc will automatically calculate the total time needed for the parent list items: image

A number of options give you flexibility in setting and calculating time for your projects (setting tag formats, including or excluding time for the closed tasks, etc).

And finally. Not only is this extension free, but its source code is available on github, so if you have an idea on how to make the tool even better, go ahead, let’s code :)

Here’s also a link to Warren’s blog post, so you could say hello and share your ideas with him.
